Project Completion Award Certificates
Certificates are given to individuals to officially state that they have completed some educational degree or passed some test. They are also given out at the completion of different pieces of training. Participants of different competitions may be given certificates as an acknowledgment of participation, or they may be given only to the winners to show the distinction.
For example, at the school level, students may be awarded certificates for being regular. Some students may be given certificates for getting the highest marks or winning some competition. While these are based on achievement, some students may get certificates just to signify their participation.
Awarding certificates to the employees always results in an increase in motivation and job satisfaction which is then reflected as increased productivity.
On completion of big or important projects, often the employees showing remarkable performance are awarded certificates. These certificates are given out to show that the employee has played an important part in the project and that their contribution has made a difference and they are valued and acknowledged. They not only serve to encourage the employee to be awarded but also motivate others to work hard.
The certificates are a record of an individual’s efforts and achievements, and the recipients mention them in their CVs too to show their competence and expertise.
Generally, the companies keep a template of the certificate and update it as required. The generic template would include the following points and would be edited according to the occasion on which it is being given:
- The name and the logo of the company awarding the certificate
- A descriptive line stating the name of the project for which the employee is being awarded the certificate
- The name of the employee getting the certificate
- The reason for awarding the certificate, for example, for exceptional leadership skills, innovative ideas, creativity, efforts above and beyond the call of duty for the timely completion of the project, etc.
- The designation of the employee
- The date on which the certificate is being given
- The stamp and signatures of the person on whose authority the certificate is being issued.
The language used should be formal. The selected font and the colors and the general aesthetics of the certificate should be very elegant and ceremonial. The presentation has a huge impact on the results any action elicits and since the purpose is to acknowledge an employee’s work and thank them for their contribution, a shoddily produced certificate would have on opposite effect.
Similarly, grammatical mistakes would seriously undermine the purpose of the certificate. Also, special care must be given to the spellings especially those of the recipient’s name, as wrong spellings might offend and disappoint the recipient and hence be counterproductive.
Free templates for certificates are also available online. It depends on the company’s budget and preference whether they want a personalized design or feel that a generic template would serve the purpose.
In either case, the certificate should be printed on high-quality paper which can be obtained from any good stationery supplier, and it is generally laminated to give it a more professional look. Certificates are usually printed in landscape layout as that looks more official.
